Lauded by design critics as one of the UK's most exciting talents, Nick Munro is a designer with a blossoming international reputation.
A graduate of engineering and design from The Royal College of Art and Imperial College of Science and Technology London, Nick launched his career by turning bedsprings into egg cups - an instant hit which won him the prize of UK Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 1987. Since then his name has become synonymous with original, modern British design ranging from pewter, ceramics and glass to furniture and lighting.
In addition to having his own signature collection, Nick Munro has collaborated with some of the world's most renowned names such as Wedgwood, The Victorian & Albert Museum, Spode, Tyrone Irish Crystal, Bugatti in Italy and CHF Industries in the USA.
Pooling his talents with those of Royal Selangor, Nick has created a unique range of designs, which beautifully evoke the historic link between Eastern and Western design traditions. The results both extol the technology and precision of Royal Selangor manufacturing and exude a style in tune with the aspirations of contemporary living.
The new and innovative lifestyle accessories include an exquisite tea set, elegant salt and pepper mills, candlestick, votive/egg cup and, to bring a certain oriental calm, an incense burner in the form of a shiny pewter pebble. These items fuse both Eastern and Western design traditions. The designer was inspired by the attention to detail exhibited by artists of the ancient Song period, and drew parallels with the elegant proportions, balance and precision of 20th century modernist works.

There are also intriguing designs for the office including letter openers, a paperweight, post-it pad tray and a new concept for a pencil sharpener. These are designs that boast beautiful organic forms in which the designer was inspired by his memories of favorite beach holidays, skimming pebbles on the sea, fishing from the pier and watching the sailing boats glide by. The sharpener for instance, takes after a smooth beach pebble.
Inspired by the gentle sway of marsh grasses, there is a beautifully flowing shape concept for photo frames, which combines the latest Royal Selangor pewter and woodmaking technologies to achieve some truly seductive objects of desire.
His latest designs combines the warmth of pewter and frosted acrylic. These designs come in two colors - cool mint and delicious fudge.
